Annual Council Meeting (Mayor-Making)
The Annual Council Meeting (not to be confused with the Annual Town
Meeting), is a statutory Meeting which must take place in May of each
year.
It is the first meeting of the 'new' Council and the ceremony at which
the old Mayor, officially hands over the reins of head of the Town
Council to the new Mayor.
It is a traditional ceremony and all the Councillors dress in their
official regalia, a procession takes place from the Council offices to
the Town Hall with the Councillors preceded by the Town Sergeant
carrying the mace.
It is at this meeting that the new Mayor signifies their cadet and chaplain for the year.
The procession is a colourful spectacle and some pictures are shown of last year's event which took place in Dover Town Hall.
This year Mayor-making will take place on 21st May.
This, like all Council meetings is a public event and there are spaces
for any Townspeople to attend the meeting if they wish.
