Annual Council Meeting (Mayormaking)
Tuesday 20th May 2008
The Annual Council Meeting (not to be confused with the Annual Town Meeting), is a statutory Meeting which must take place in May of each year.
It is the first meeting of the 'new' Council and the ceremony at which the old Mayor, officially hands over the reins of head of the Town Council to the new Mayor.
It is a traditional ceremony and all the Councillors dress in their official regalia, a procession takes place from the Council offices to the Town Hall with the Councillors preceded by the Town Sergeant carrying the mace.
The procession is a colourful spectacle and some pictures are shown of last year's event which took place in Dover College.
This year Mayormaking will take place in Dover Town Hall on 20th May. This, like all Council meetings is a public event and there are spaces for any Townspeople to attend the meeting if they wish.
